We are a proud family-run, independent lettings agency, rooted in the heart of Stoke Newington, and one of the very first letting agents to be established in the area. Founded in 1987 by the late Zeka Mustafa — a much-loved pillar of the Hackney community — our business was built on a foundation of community spirit, personal service, and a deep commitment to helping others.

Zeka’s unparalleled warmth, drive, and passion for people shaped the ethos of Rent-A-Home, and that legacy continues today under the leadership of his wife Fatma, now our Director, and Mehmet, our long-standing Manager. Together, they’ve carried the business forward for over three decades, blending experience with integrity and a personal touch that’s hard to find elsewhere.

At Rent-A-Home, we focus exclusively on lettings and property management, allowing us to provide expert, undivided attention to every landlord and tenant. From managing a block of 18 studio flats in Homerton, to six-bedroom HMOs in Clapton, or flats in Finsbury Park, we cover the full spectrum of residential lettings. While we specialise in the boroughs of Hackney, Islington, and Haringey, we often manage properties further afield, thanks to long-term landlords who trust us to extend our services across London.

What truly sets us apart is our genuinely personal approach. In an age where many agencies have become increasingly corporate and impersonal, we continue to foster long-standing, family-like relationships with our clients — some of whom have been with us since the very beginning. Our conversations with landlords often go well beyond property; we know them, and they know us.

Our maintenance services are equally consistent. We've worked with the same team of reliable, cost-effective contractors for over a decade, and together we offer 24-hour emergency response, ensuring issues are dealt with promptly before they escalate.

Fees

Tenant Fees

Refundable Holding deposit - Capped at 1 weeks rent.

Security Deposit - Capped at 5 weeks rent for annual rental under £50,000, or 6 weeks rent for annual rental over £50,000

Rent - The agreed monthly rent

Changes to tenancy - Capped at £50 inc VAT

Early termination charge Not exceeding the landlord’s financial losses

Late payment of rent - Interest of 3% above BoE base rate for each day the rent is late, once it is 14 days overdue

Replacement keys - Reasonable costs or the tenant has the option to purchase themselves

Utilities, council tax, communication services, TV Licence etc - Tenants own responsibility unless otherwise stated in contract

Landlord Fees

We offer three types of services for the property management of our Landlords:

Let Only: We charge the first two week’s rent as commission

Management: 8% of monthly rent

Guaranteed Rent:There is no set fee for this service. We offer a guaranteed rental price upon evaluation of the property. Note that we do not offer guaranteed rent for all properties.
